Thursday Thirteen #2 4

China Beach
Forgot to do this last week! Oops. So here’s one for this week:

13 of my favourites vacations!

Though not in order of preference except for England but the pictures were just too hard to fiddle with to get them into place!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA#1: London, EnglandI always thought Peter Jackson used Windsor Castle as his inspiration for Gondor.

October 2004

#2: York, England — Aaak! I don’t have any scanned pics!

#3: Virgin Islands

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis is Turtle Bay in the US Virgin Islands.
I LOVED the snorkelling there, but my skin hated the sun. I’ve never been so badly sunburned as I was that week.

April 2004

Congress_sm#4. Washington DC

We took our boys to see all the sights in DC in August 2003 — the temps were averaging 104. We were nuts but we walked almost everywhere.

August 2002

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA#5. Quebec City

If you’ve never been to Europe, here’s your chance without leaving the continent.

July 2000

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA#6. Banff, Alberta

I want to to BAAAACK!  (The picture is of the very beautiful and often photographed Moraine Lake)

August 2006

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA#7. Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC (though it was decimated during severe storms last fall)

My youngest son and hubby by the Hollow Tree.
August 2006

#8. St. Andrews by the Bay, New Brunswick (Again, no scanned pics – Sorry) but it was July 2000

Curly at China-Beach-Tree#9. China Beach, Vancouver Island, British Columbia

A huge old growth forest. Amazingly enough I saw and heard no birds there!

August 2006

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA#10. Ottawa, Ontario

I grew up near Ottawa, so this is a familiar site. And I still enjoy going back to visit, especially the Byward Market.

Too many times to mention in the last ten years.

#11. Montreal, Quebec

Hmm, no scanned pictures — I really need to update this!

disney for web#12. Disneyworld, Florida, USA

Yup, look at our youngest son here — he’s four! Even my eldest is little here!

March 1996

#13. San Francisco, California, USA

This is in Ghirardelli Square
(Me and hubby way back in the early 80’s)
And we won’t mention that hubby’s hair was still dark here… will we?

    I love #13, very cute!!!

You’ve picked all the places I long to see, I’ve only been to Disney World florida.

Next year it’s Frisco for the National Conference. I’ve been saving for that!

I love all the photos, esp the 80s shot of you and the DH. I’d love to travel Europe, but I don’t know if I could stand to be gone long enough.

You wouldn’t believe we’ve only had a very few family vacations, mostly reunions and that sort of thing. But I travel an awful lot with my horses for the competitions – some years more than others, but those weekends make for nice little mini-vacations.

    Hi Leah — great list!

You asked about my laptop… I went to this site http://www.laptopdepot.ca
and picked up a refurbished for Gateway for 479. – and it only took 3 days to get here by Fedex ground. I’ve been playing on it all day!!
Oh, I should mention – with tax and shipping it came to $570. Totally worth it. It has wireless internet and is pretty speedy.
    Good luck

I love the pictures! I need to get out to Vancouver some day. I’ve never been further west than Waterloo, ON!
