Yes, I did it – I typed those six letters (and one space) at the end of my story for EC today. 30,554 words all written since May 22nd.
There’s still a few places I have to smooth out – a transition between two scenes, and one note I left myself where I need to improve my heroine’s reaction, and this latest section needs some serious editing but the story is complete.
I sent 90% of it to my two critique partners, Terri and BlueSue, earlier this week and worked in their suggestions/changes, so most of it is not a first draft, it’s pretty much ready to go.
The last 5,000 words were the hardest. I knew exactly what had to happen, but it was tough making a decision how to show it and from whose POV. I wrote one scene four different ways before I found my groove and settled down.
By the way, have I ever mentioned its title? I’m calling it Delving Deep. Hey, it’s about a merman who lives at the bottom of a lake …
So now I can get down to:
a) practicing my pitching for both my erotica and the straight historical I wrote back in January – much more scary than anything I’ve done in a long time, and the most important thing on this list. I really really want to sell this erotica story, I’m so pleased with how it came out.
b) work on my synopsis for both the straight historical and the erotica
c) editing my straight historical romance if I’m to pitch it in Dallas as well. Hey, there’s always the possibility, right?
