This book really Sucks! 7

Since I’m avoiding all the Potter hype until my own copy arrives, I’ve been indulging myself in reading the books I brought back from Dallas. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of the authors and get my books autographed. And in the books the authors would write nice things like …

  • “Enjoy” – the lovely (and huggable) Beverly Jenkins wrote in my copy of ‘Sexy/Dangerous
  • “All the Best” was wished to me by the inimitable lady Cathy Maxwell in ‘The Price of Indiscretion
  • JR Ward offered me “Best Wishes” in several of her Black Dagger Brotherhood books

But I did not pay attention to what Kathryn Smith was writing when she was autographing her “Be Mine Tonight” – we were talking about her appearance on Canada’s Bravo TV show “Who’s Afraid of Happy Endings.” I met her again later during a course she taught for non-American authors dealing with US publishers. She’s a down-to-earth lady who looks like she’d be a hoot to hang out with.

So tonight I picked up her book and leafed through the first pages to find she’d written “This Book SUCKS! Kathryn Smith” Her capitals, her punctuation. Um, gee, Kathryn? Do you really feel that way about your book? It sure got my attention, now I HAD to read it! And then I started chuckling — it’s a vampire novel. It really ‘sucks’! Two fangs up!

    That’s it, Leah…
Rub our noses in it. Name drop much? Flaunting your autograph books like some kind of bookwhore…
    ;D

I CAN’T WAIT ‘TIL NEXT YEARS CONF!!

Kathryn Smith is a great and funny lady. She came and talked to our Halifax group a few months ago.

I too, can’t wait to hit next year’s conference. Is it 2008 yet?!?!

Wylie: Yeah, I’m a bookwhore – big time! I’ve now got a ‘keeper’ shelf and an ‘autographed’ shelf! And I only attended one of the publishers’ sessions. I could have brought home a LOT more books if it hadn’t been for my cowboy hat – which I’m debating wearing to our next meeting.

Christine: Yes, Kathryn is a funny lady.

*sigh* I wish I could go to next year’s conference – but at the moment I just can’t justify it monetarily. I’m working on a blog about just how much this one cost me and that was without the cost of a hotel room. Unless I write a novel that brings in a huge advance. *snort* yeah, like that’s going to happen this year.

LOL, that’s funny!! All those dedications sound wonderful!!!! I’d LOVE to read them all! =) Got work to do, Leah.

Ya I have to agree with Wylie!!!

But then again I am such a ho when it comes to books. Great big dirty ho.

I have Kathryn Smith’s Book, it’s on my TBR pile, I would have liked to me her, and Cathy Mazwell … you lucky duck.

    *sigh* next year in Frisco.

Amy, I loved Kathryn’s book – hopefully you’ll get to it soon. And I just finished Cathy Maxwell’s too! Which was really interesting as although it had a HEA for the two main characters it left the rest of their families in chaos! Something I’ve rarely seen in romances.
