Needing that Windfall 8

I’m getting over some nasty bug that’s gone through the family – Gizmo Guy and Curly had it first. Headache, nausea, general lethargy and spacey feeling. Seems to be gone now.

Sunday, I blogged about what I’d do with a windfall. I could use one about now – I’ve registered for the Ottawa Romance Writers Sweet and Spicy conference in September. I still have to reserve a hotel room which is what will be the main cost of the trip. (Hence the need for a windfall.) I had figured I would send out a call on the TRW loop and see if anyone else is planning on attending and ask if they wanted to split the cost of a room, but Gizmo Guy has said he wants to come with me that weekend. (Isn’t that so sweet and supportive?) So if you’re planning on going too, you’ll get to meet GG in person.

Although I have to wonder if he’s going to enjoy being surrounded by a bunch of romance writers.

Probably.

Oh! That sounds like fun. I’ve been trying to get DH to go to a fantasy conf with me for years. And they even have belly dancers (not to mention the Yard Dog Traveling Road Show!)

Although, now that I mention it, he’d probably enjoy chatting with the romance writers just as much.

Of course, I had planned to make several conferences this year and they are mostly all on the same weekends as my shooting events. 🙁

Unfortunately, I’m not going to make it to Ottawa, but a few of us are going to head over the border in October for the New Jersey one! Eloisa James and JR Ward, to mention a few!

Oh, shoot! Details, JK, I need the deets on that one!

Sheesh, add to that the Moonlight and Magnolias conference down in Atlanta, that my crit partner Marley is considering attending, and I REALLY need to buy a winning lottery ticket!

I know all about needing windfalls to get to conferences. New Zealand is a long way from Nationals. Hubby is going with me, too. He’s soaked up a lot of writing info over the years. I always look at him wide-eyed when he spouts something about writing. He snorts and goes, “See. I listen to you.”

    You’ll have a ball!

I attended the NJ conference a few years ago. It was well worth the expense and very friendly. It’s a large conference but not as scary as Nationals. There are usually heaps of editors and agents in attendance as well 🙂

Well, my DH loves you all! You’ve met him so you know, he thinks you’re all great!! 🙂

I was contemplating the Ottawa conf, but I dunno… Nationals is sucking up A LOT of cash!
And the NJ conference sounds like a good bet, too!

Yeah, Nationals were really expensive for me last year – and I didn’t have a hotel bill thanks to Dani and BlueSue. But I didn’t have any business-like clothes (I work in my pj’s for Pete’s sake) which meant I went out and had to buy new clothes – better than the usual blue jeans. And all those other little things that add up.

And I hadn’t heard about the NJ one – I actually approached GG today about it and he shot me a look.

I’ve blogged about it tomorrow so I’ll continue then …

That IS sweet. I think what Allison Brennan said on her workshop about a spouse saying, “do you have to sit there with that computer tonight? Can’t you watch this (boring) movie with me?” You’re so lucky that he likes to write and has similar interests.

I’m still thinking about the Georgia conference in October.
