Isn’t it romantic? Hmm, maybe not … 5

I’m doing a little research here … I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with their Significant Others, current or otherwise, doing something they ‘think’ is romantic that you find … well, it’s not romantic to you at all.

I know some of this is subjective – to one woman, her hubby washing the dishes might be ultra romantic, while another woman might just think that’s the least he could do.

If your boss orders your favorite bottle of wine for a dinner you’re sharing (work related), would you think ‘he’s putting a move on you’ or would you write it off as a happy coincidence and chug it down?

So – have you got any tales to share about something your SO has done that he’s thought would turn you on, that didn’t? And was it that it just flat out wasn’t romantic, or did you miss the signals because he was too subtle? (Can a guy be too subtle?)

One Valentines Day I’d been in a serious relationship for 2 years and we both agreed we thought “holidays” like that were silly and we wouldn’t do anything.

Well, my roommate put together a lovely basket for her boyfriend, so I made one for mine at the same time. Not a guilt trip and I TOTALLY didn’t expect him to get me anything. . .it wasn’t a test (I’m not a tester). . .so imagine my surprise (and delight) when he gets the basket and says: This is great because I got you something too!!!”

He goes out to his car and comes back with. . . . .A organizer on wheels.

Yup, one of those things with drawers and slots that you can roll around your office.

    He tried. He really did.

Bria – that’s exactly the type of thing I’m thinking about. Very guy-like. Practical, but yeah, for Valentine’s day, not particularly romantic. But as you say, he tried – and you know he was thinking of you – and that’s MAJOR.

LOL – my hubby is all about practical. We don’t give each other presents for birthdays etc because mostly if either of us want something, we’ll go out and buy it. That said, he does bring me surprise presents for no reason at all, which I find very romantic. Yesterday he brought me a pretty plant, but it could be something like chocolate or a bottle of wine. He’s sweet like that.

As for the wine – it depends. Knowing me I’d just think the boss is being nice, but it depends on his subtle behavior beforehand. It could be a tricky situation.

    Guys subtle? nuh-uh.
    Dopey? Oh yeah.

For our anniversary, hubby bought me the new iPhone (which I stood in line for, btw, for six hours). It was REALLY for him (the Apple-lover he is) so it being mine was just a ruse.

BUT — guess what. I’m not letting him touch it because I LOVE IT!!!!!
    BEST.PRESENT.EVAH!!
