Yesterday my youngest son surprised the heck out of me by cleaning up the room where the boys have their television and game consoles. He did it without being asked. If that wasn’t enough, he cleaned up his room, packing up his old school uniforms now that he doesn’t need them any more, and a lot of the toys and things he’d accumulated over the years. Again, without being asked. Woohoo, part of me is thrilled, and a part of me is sad, as some of the pictures I’d sewn for him and put up in his room over the years are now on my desk. He’s not a little boy any more.
Raven Scavenger Hunt: Don’t forget that the Raven Scavenger Hunt is on still, and will be for the rest of the month. But that means you have to visit multiple authors’ websites to find hidden graphics, so don’t leave it to the last minute to enter. If you do a couple sites a day, it’ll be much easier.(I’m giving away an autographed print copy of my novel Personal Protection.)
Harlequin Ornament Exchange: Sapphire and Penn, the ladies who take care of the eHarlequin forums, have posted about their annual ornament exchange. There are several — both for the Harlequin groups (there are different exchanges throughout the Harlequin community) as well as one for Carina itself. I’ve thrown my name into the hat for the Carina exchange. I’m sewing a Christmas ornament (it’s almost done) for whoever I draw in the secret Santa exchange. (In addition to writing, I used to do professional drawn-thread embroidery for an English designer. So it’s quality stitching!) If you want to participate, you need to sign up by October 15th, 2010. Details are also here, but I’ve copied and pasted them below:
All you need to do to participate is :
*Email Penn with your online name, your real name and your mailing address by October 15, 2010.
A few simple rules:
*Ornaments are to be $15(US) or less. You can purchase one or if you are crafty make an one of a kind ornament.
*You will receive your Secret Santa Name by October 22nd, 2010
*All ornaments to be mailed out by November 1st, 2010
Editor Pitch to Angela James: If you have a two-paragraph blurb of your story, you can enter the contest to have your manuscript looked at by Carina’s executive editor Angela James. Five pitches will be drawn from amongst the submissions. But you have to get your entry in by October 12th and the winner will be announced on the 18th. You can find the rest of the details here in the Write Stuff section of the forums. There are rules, read them. Follow them.
We’re at it again! And this time, we’re giving you an oppurtunity to pitch anything! Well, almost! Send us your: Romance, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Futuristic, Erotica, Mystery, Thrillers, Horror, Family Saga, Women’s Fiction, Interactive Fiction with Multiple/Alternate Endings, because Carina Press is looking for YOUR manuscript and Executive Editor, Angela James will be on hand to take your pitch!
What are you waiting for? Go on! No need to be nervous. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? (okay, I’ll quit with the cliches.) The clock is ticking!
Don’t forget that if you want to chat with any of the Carina Press authors, you can do so over on the Harlequin forum. We have our own rooms and they’re divided up into sections so you don’t have to wade through hundreds of emails every day trying to sort through what you want to read. (and no Yahoo sign up either)
