Every year author Brenda Novak holds an auction to help raise money for diabetes research. In the past year it’s become even more relevant to my family with Gizmo Guy’s diabetes diagnosis. The Carina Press authors have banded together and pitched in several packages you can bid on:
- a Nook Color, with cover, loaded with ebooks by Carina authors (yes, including Texas Tangle)
- a Kindle 3G with cover and light, loaded with ebooks by Carina authors (Texas Tangle is here too)
- a networking breakfast or lunch with nine Carina Press authors and a Carina Press editor in New York City during the RWA national conference (June 28 to July 1, 2011)!
Join Carina Press authors Adrienne Giordano-Maynard, Julie Rowe, Keri Stevens, Leah Braemel, Lilly Cain, Natalie J. Damschroder, Susanna Fraser, Taryn Kincaid, VK Sykes (a husband and wife writing team) and freelance editor Gina Bernal at a mutually agreed time and place in NYC. Take advantage of the wide range of publishing experience and savvy these professionals eagerly want to share. This is your opportunity to ask questions and seek advice on the direction of your writing career, and yes, pitch your book!
- First Chapter Critiques by Carina authors Cindy Spencer Pape, Vanessa Kelly (who also writes as VK Sykes), Seleste Delaney, Julie Rowe, Natalie Damschroder, Nicole North, Patricia Preston, Susanna Fraser, Lilly Cain, Christine Bell, and Misty Evans. For a complete list of their links, you can go here.
The money all goes to a wonderful cause that will benefit over 7% of the American public — and of course others around the world. And with the auction, you get something in return for reaching into your wallet. There are some fantastic items up for bid, both writing related and non-writing related–that’s right, it’s not just about books. You’ll also find auctions for Coach bags, for jewelry and dresses (such as a limited edition copy of the dress Kate Middleton wore the night she met Wills.) There are trips and vacations — such as a week-long stay at Cherry Adair’s guest house. Don’t want to bid on anything but would still like to give a donation? You can do that too. To find out more, visit Brenda’s Diabetes webpage for more information, or you can jump straight over to her auction site. Oh, and don’t miss her one-day auction items — they change every day and you only have the one day to bid on them.
