Life imitates Sam?

When I write, I often surround my monitor with pictures of actors or models who remind me of my characters.  For instance, when I was writing Hidden Heat, I had pictures of models I thought represented the “good” Sandy that everyone else saw in the office:

along with another picture of how she wanted to be seen, and how Troy came to see her:

For my current story, I found this picture who I thought represents Andy in his yet untitled story…

While I was writing Private Property and Personal Protection, there were several pictures of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stuck around my monitor. I mean, come on, the man is sexy. (I thought he was trying to lose that handle, by the way, so why is he still Twittering under it?) Now I’m NOT saying I know anything of Dwayne’s preferences behind closed doors — after all, I write fiction. I make stuff up, and I sure as heck made up Sam and Rosie’s exploits behind closed doors. And open doors. And in the limo. And on the dance floor. And in Sam’s very exclusive private sex club La Porte Rouge.

So I darned near fell on the floor in hysterical laughter when I saw The Rock tweet this last night:

Discipline Techniques?

That is such a typical Sam-ism. I can just picture him holding one of those “Technique Sticks” when he’s got Rosie alone in Hauberk’s gym after hours for a little one-on-one training session… ;)

(Happy belated birthday, Mary G!)

That went fast

I’m ba-ack. Wow, that week went fast. But did it ever give me the break I need. I walked on the sandy beach, and sat on the porch and listened to the wind in the trees while herons and terns flew overhead.  I got a bit of a sunburn on my face the very first day when I fell asleep out there. Ooops — there was something about all that fresh air that had both Gizmo Guy and I napping at least three times a day.  We even went swimming, although not in the lake — it was too weedy. But there was a lovely pool and the water was the perfect temperature. Oh, and while you guys were all sweating, even an hour south — where I was, there were some times it was so chilly I had to break out my sweater.  I loved it!

I also indulged myself and managed to read a half dozen books by other authors. (I’d taken my Kindle as well as about 8 paperbacks.)  I managed to sneak in the time to finish Lauren Dane’s Wolf Unbound (Cascadia Wolves), Jill Shalvis’ Slow Heat (Berkley Sensation)and her Animal Magnetism (Berkley Sensation). (All great books.) I didn’t just read — I also wrote. I worked on three different works-in-progress, including starting a short story I plan to give out for freebie here on my site around Christmas-time. It’s going to be a follow-up to Sam and Rosie from Personal Protection.

While I was away, a lot of my author loops have been abuzz with the news that if you’re a Kindle user and have bemoaned how you can’t get an author’s autograph on your e-copy, someone has come up with a method of allowing authors to personalize your copy. You can sign into Kindlegraph and request an author “sign” your Kindle copy. I’ve added all my books over there so you can request an autograph. My biggest challenge, LOL, is what to actually inscribe. I always feel like I need to come up with something snappy and funny. (My favorite inscription from an author is from Kathryn Smith — at an autograph signing in Dallas where she signed one of her Brother of Blood vampire books for me, she wrote “This book sucks” I didn’t read it until I was on the plane flying back from Dallas and at first thought “how weird she’d put down her own book” then slapped myself in the forehead and thought “Of course, it’s a vampire book! D’oh!”)  Oh to be so witty…

I’m over at Everybody Needs a Little Romance

I figured out how to clone myself so I could be in two places at once. Oh, all right, so all I did was write a post ahead of time and Natalie Damschroder posted it for me while I’m still on vacation. But…

I’m over at Everybody Needs a Little Romance today, talking about romance, and my first birthday present from Gizmo Guy. Yup, that’s right, it’s my birthday. And on my birthday, I give away presents, so make sure you drop in to help me celebrate.

Unplugged

After writing three books in the past year, having two book releases within a month of each other, and two conferences within the same month, I’ve reached the end of my rope and declared that “I need a vacation!” So Gizmo Guy and I have rented a cottage on the shores of one of the many lakes here in Ontario for the next week. With no internet.

And while I have been muttering “OMG I so need to unplug from my computer and all the social media for a while and just…breathe“, part of me is also going “OMG OMG OMG what am I going to do with myself?” because I admit it, I’m hooked on the net and constantly check my email, FB, Google+, etc. etc. etc. Which is part of the reason I need to unplug and go on vacation.

I will be dragging my old Mac book that doesn’t have any games loaded on it so I can still write without distraction, and yes, I’ll be popping into town a couple times during the week to check my email and to catch up on a blogpost I’m doing over at Everybody Loves a Little Romance on Tuesday but if you send me an email and I don’t respond immediately, I’m not ignoring you. Well, yes, I am in a way.  I need some time just to refocus and relax…later dudes!
