Titles are freaking hard to come up with. Usually I look for specific phrases that I may have used in the story, or try to find something that is a twist on my characters or their situation. When I was trying to find a title for my Christmas novella, I had the added burden of trying to incorporate the Christmas or holiday theme. I also Google titles to see if they’ve been used too often — it can be confusing for readers when you have multiple books out from different authors. And there are a lot of common Christmasy titles out there.
To be honest, with the exception of Private Property and Texas Tangle, the titles are usually only decided right before I submit the story. This Christmas one? I kept coming up blank until fellow author and friend Anara Bella suggested The Art of Love as a placeholder.
My editor from Carina just emailed me to confirm that after lots of discussions, and retitling forms, and more suggestions from me, and more discussions, they’ve decided upon a new title for my Christmas story:
So if you see that title up on my Coming Soon Page, no, I haven’t sold another story, it’s just a new title for the original story.
