I’m writing book 2 in my new Carina Press trilogy, and I often play country music in the background to keep me in the mood.  And I usually make up a playlist–I’m a little slow getting to it this manuscript.

Image thanks to InkoGutto of Morguefile http://www.morguefile.com/archive/display/844527So I’m looking to all you country music enthusiasts to help me come up with a longer list.  I figured maybe you guys could introduce me to a few new songs and maybe a few new singers.

I need songs where they’re falling in love, where they’re fighting the feelings, where they’re breaking up, and when they’re getting back together. (Come on, it’s country–there are a ton of those, right?)

Here’s some already on my playlist: Randy Rogers’ Band Steal You Away. Or Rodney Atkins’ If You’re Going Through Hell. Or Ryan Bingham’s The Weary Kind (if you saw Crazy Heart, you’ll recognize this one).

Okay, now it’s your turn … tell me your favorite romantic country love songs…

I’d have to say that my all time favorite country song is “He Stopped Loving Her Today” by George Jones. Cry every single time I hear it. It’s an older song, but it’s so good that it’s become a country classic.
I also like “For the Good Times” by Ray Price. Another oldie but goodie. On the newer side, Tim McGraw’s “Better Than I Use to Be” has a really strong message about proving you’ve changed and are a better person. Let’s see, “This is Where the Cowboy Rides Away” by George Strait is another good one. “Go Rest High On That Mountain” by Vince Gill is good. Sad, about death, but good.
So, can you tell my favorite kind of music is country?? I could come up with lots more, but I’ll stop here.

Thanks for your suggestions, Shirley. I love Tim McGraw–I’ve downloaded a couple he’s sung with Faith…I’ll check our Ray, George and Vince’s too. I never used to listen to country music until I started writing westerns but now I listen to it all the time, no matter what I’m writing. (or reading)

Patsy Cline, Walking after Midnight. Umm.. San Antonio Stroll, is that Tanya Tucker. Conway Twitty- Saturday Night Special- George Jones – He stopped loving her today. and Joni. Crystal Gayle – you never miss a real good thing. Reba – Keep on Loving you – ok … Anything by Reba !! 🙂 and just about anything by King George! Remind me by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley
    Or if you’re feeling sassy:
Mama’s broken heart and Gunpodwer and lead by Carrie Underwood.

I already told you I love Billy Currington’s Let Me Down Easy for a ballad, but you should check out Florida Georgia Line (Cruise) for something more upbeat. Of course I love Tim McGraw too and his latest The Highway Don’t Care is a new favorite. Classic old favorite of Tim McGraw’s would have to be “Live Like you Were Dying”. There are so many, and these are only a few of my faves! Going through a country music phase right now. Ohhhhh, also Luke Bryant! Well, I could go on.
