As you know, some of my guest bloggers hold contests where they give away copies of their books or other swag. As do I. But I’m wondering — just how long should I be leaving the contest open for people to comment before I draw a winner? I’ve experimented a bit. Since most of my guests visit on Wednesday, I’ve done the route of “you have to comment by midnight tonight” and announced the winner the next day. But to be honest, I don’t always get to my regular blogs every day and kick myself later for having missed a contest (yes, I like to win books too!)  So I’ve tried leaving comments open until the following Tuesday.  But what I’ve noticed is that usually the comments stop after Friday. So I’m thinking I’ll split the difference and give you until Friday night (that’ll give you three days to catch up on your blog reading) and post the winners on Saturdays.

What do you think?  For? Against?  Let me know by leaving a comment. Oh, and don’t forget, by commenting, you are entered in my Reader’s Appreciation contest each month.

I think four or five days, also. And Tweet the give, as well. Tweeting seems to bring people around more than anything else.

I think blogging and tweeting will bring a lot of attention.

    4-5 days sounds good.

If your giveaway is on Wednesday,I'd say end them Sunday. Not everyone gets on during the week and blog hop on weekends,so they at least get a chance to enter.

I like the idea of getting caught up, lately I have been uber busy, and I don't have time until Saturday morning. Maybe draw Sunday morning? Either end Friday or Saturday – both would work for me 🙂

I think a couple of days is a good idea for the length of a contest…if you close it on Saturday night, it gives everyone a chance to participate…you know how life is…hectic and chaotic.

Either Friday or Saturday night work for me.

As others have suggested, giving folks until Saturday night seems like a generous thing. Then you can post winners Sunday or Monday. That way people who can only check on weekends or can only check during the week will all have their chance to enjoy! Thanks again for hosting such lovely guests and for sharing yourself! It's always a treat to visit!

saturday or sunday would be perfect for me. gives me time to enter.

I don't like the ones that don't at least give you overnight to enter, but if the dead line is too far away, I may forget that I entered. then I may miss the winner announcement. Three or four days is a good range.
Just try to make sure that you do announce the winners when you say you will. There are a couple of blogs I've seen that don't announce them when they say(or wait for a week or more after the end of the contest). It gets annoying.

I like it ending on Sunday and then announcing the winner.

I agree that if it is too long one forgets to check or if the winner isn't announced when it says it will be then you have to keep going back to check so you don't lose the prize b/c you didn't find out in time. Thanks.
