Leah here: Today’s guest is also a neighbor of mine. Before you read her post, make her fantastic recipe for crepes, or find the link to a very special exclusive excerpt, let me tell you a bit about how I met Anara.

In one of those strange quirks of life, we met completely by accident at a local Sherrilyn Kenyon book signing.  We were both standing in line at the cash — the person in front of Anara was having problems with their credit card which meant we had lots of time to get bored. I can’t remember whether it was Anara or I, but one of us picked up a Twilight bookmark. I made some remark about them not being able to put my bookmarks up there, and she asked if I was a writer. I told her that yes, I wrote spicy romances for Samhain Publishing. To which she replied, totally shocking me, “Me too!”  Turned out we live about 2 km (a little over a mile) apart.  We struck up a friendship that night and kept in touch — we go out to lunches that turn into dinners (I’m not kidding, the last three we’ve arrived around noon and left after 6, the poor waitresses), IM for brainstorming help and generally kvetch about life while egging each other on when we need it.  Oh and I got to read Anara’s latest story “Bound and Determined” before anyone else. 😉 And after reading this I think I’m going to insist we go back to her place so she can whip up a batch of these crepes…

Anara’s Hunks Really Cook

There are a lot of things I find sexy in a guy but is there anything sexier than a man who knows what he’s doing in the kitchen? Well, maybe there is, but for me the ability to cook ranks right up there with the other good stuff. Probably because cooking isn’t my favorite pastime. Don’t get me wrong, I’m actually a pretty good cook, and believe me I enjoy eating, I just don’t particularly enjoy the work involved in preparing food. So the idea of a man cooking for me for a change sounds absolutely divine.

The hero in my latest release is just such a guy. He’s not a chef or anything fancy like that, but he enjoys cooking and makes some very tasty meals for the heroine. I find that very sexy but this got me to wondering whether others think it’s sexy as well.

After all, what’s sexy to one person leaves another one cold, or even indifferent. But sex-appeal isn’t just about appearance, although that’s often a big factor. Let’s face it, a set of piercing blue eyes, sexy forearms, or a nice ass aren’t exactly a turn off. But what about things that are more intangible like intelligence, kindness, a sexy accent, sharp wit, a great sense of humor. A guy can have any variation of those great qualities, but add to the mix that he can cook too, and wow, he suddenly becomes a real keeper.

That’s probably why the heroes in my books tend to have at least some skills in the kitchen. A prime example of that is Marcus, the hero in my latest release Bound and Determined. He definitely knows his way around a kitchen (and the bedroom, but I digress LOL) and proves it by whipping up yummy dishes for the heroine throughout the book. One such occasion is when he brings Asia breakfast in bed. He doesn’t take the lazy way and just toss a few slices of bread in the toaster. Oh no. He goes all out and makes her crepes from scratch. That alone makes him a hero in my book. LOL

I love crepes. Eating them takes me back to lovely childhood memories when my mother used to make them. She was a great cook and happily (because it was definitely one of my favorite meals), having crepes was nothing out of the ordinary for us. Mind you, since my parents are Hungarian, we called them palacsinta instead of crepes.

I was quite young when my mother taught me how to make them and I still whip up a batch when I get the craving. They’re fast to throw together, delicious, and very versatile, easily changing from a meal to a dessert based on what you choose as a filling. Many people think they’re difficult to make, but they’re not. They’re actually very easy, and you can even mix up the batter ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for several days. Have I piqued your interest at all?

Sigh. Food and men. Sounds like a great combination to me… Where was I again? Oh yes, so what do you find sexy in a guy? =)

Marcus’s Breakfast Crepes

3 eggs

1 cup milk

1/2 cup water

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tbsp granulated sugar

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Oil for cooking. I use Sunflower oil but use whatever you prefer

In a large mixing bowl, add the eggs, milk, water, salt and sugar. Whisk together until ingredients are mixed. Then gradually add the flour while whisking until all the flour is added and the batter is smooth.

Heat a lightly oiled, large frying pan over medium high heat. Pour the batter (I use a soup ladle) onto the fry pan, using approximately 1/2 cup batter for each crepe. Tilt the pan with a circular motion so that the batter coats the surface evenly.

Cook the crepe for about 2 minutes, until the bottom is light brown. Loosen with a spatula (I use a butter knife), turn/flip the crepe and cook the other side.

You can eat them plain or with the filling of your choice. Any kind of jam is nice, my hubby loves corn syrup on his. My favorite filling is what my mother always made. It’s a quick mixture of Ricotta cheese, vanilla, sugar, and finely diced dillweed. The dill sounds weird in there, but trust me, it’s delicious. =)

It takes around 10 minutes to make the batter. Each crepe takes a couple of minutes to cook. This recipe makes about 6 large crepes.

Contemporary Romance Novella

Falling for a hot guy is not in her plans. He’s got a different agenda.

Ever since her ex-fiancé cheated on her, Asia Smith has successfully worked at avoiding any involvement with men. Until Marcus Thorne walks into her life. As the single most tempting morsel of male flesh she’s ever encountered, he’s testing her resolve to the hilt. Suddenly her cast-in-concrete goals aren’t so concrete after all. And she’s having more and more difficulty remembering just why she should be pushing him away.

A bestselling author, Marcus is used to women throwing themselves at him. Asia’s resistance to his charm is a whole new challenge, a temptation he has no intention of resisting. All he has to do is break down the wall of her defenses and get to the soft, willing woman he suspects is hiding inside.

Marcus peels away her inhibitions with sizzling ease. But now comes the biggest challenge of all—winning her trust.

Warning: This book contains a resistant damsel in distress, a sexy-as-hell hero who can cook, adventures with rope, great food, and oodles of red-hot sex.

I love a guy who isn’t afraid to do typically female rolls. The cooking, the cleaning, you know? Probably why I married my guy. He may not do the cooking, but he cleans the bathroom! Nothing hotter than that!!

As for crepes! They are totally my comfort food. I haven’t had them in a LONG time.
    My favourite topping?
    Creme Caramel!
    1 cup whipping cream
    1 cup brown sugar
Mix together and bring to a boil. Boil for 10ish minutes.
Take off heat throw in a tablespoon of butter. Mix in.
    Let cool slightly.
AMAZING caramel sauce for your crepes!
    Don’t look at the fat/calories ok? 🙂

    • August 17, 2011 at 11:05 am

Your guy cleans the bathroom? O_O Oh man, he’s definitely a keeper! Lucky you.

The Creme Caramel sounds amazing. I have to try that soon. Thanks for sharing the recipe, Natasha!! =)

      • August 17, 2011 at 11:13 am

He TOTALLY does! AND he does the laundry!!!
        He’s amazing 😀
You’ll have to let me know if you try the sauce.

        • August 17, 2011 at 11:29 am

OMG I’m SO jealous. Mine looks at me like I’ve grown a horn in the middle of my forehead if I ask him to help me fold HIS stuff. LOL

Will definitely let you know when I try your recipe, Natasha. I ran across a yummy looking apple/cinnamon filling recipe just the other day that I also want to try.

You just fry together until the apple pieces are soft – 1 finely chopped apple, 1 tbsp butter, a pinch of each cinnamon and nutmeg, and 1 tbsp powdered sugar. So easy and it totally sounds scrumptious.

Okay, I’m officially starving now. LOL

Leah, that is such a cool story about how you and Anara met! ‘Twas meant to be, your friendship 🙂 Anara, a guy who can cook definitely gets my vote! I have to say that competence is VERY attractive, no matter what the arena. Compassion is also a lovely trait.

    • August 17, 2011 at 2:00 pm

You’re so right, Fedora. It really is cool how Leah and I met and I’m so glad we did. I can’t imagine not having her friendship now.

Competence and compassion are two great qualities. I also love a guy who’s great with kids. Especially love when a big strapping guy is holding a tiny baby. Wow, love that image. =)

I would love to meet a guy that can cook. I love to cook so that would be so great to share that with someone special.
Recipe looks so yummy – will have to make this for my Mom – she loves crepes.

That would be a lovely treat for your mom, Karen. I’m sure she’d love it. =)

    Hi Anara & Leah
Never get sick of that story of how you met. I have my own crazy ‘how I met Leah’ story.
There must be something special about Leah LOL.

I love a guy who is not afraid to be himself.
Does stuff from the heart, is strong on the outside & a mushball on the inside.

Congrats on your new release Anara.

    • August 17, 2011 at 2:14 pm

Hey Mary!!! *waving madly* Thank you!

I think you’re right about Leah, there is something special about her. =)

Strong on the outside, mushball on the inside. Sounds very edible to me. I like it!! *adds it to the list* LOL

Hi Anara (and Leah!), I love the gorgeous cover of your newest story and now reading more about who and what is between the pages I am wanting to check out this read more than ever! As for what makes the guy for me, opening doors/watching out for me (as I am pretty klutzy) is automatic for my guy when we’re out and about. I really appreciate that about him! Congrats on your latest release Anara!

    • August 17, 2011 at 4:16 pm

      Thank you, Allison!

I love the cover too. The wonderful Angela Waters created it. In fact, she’s done the cover for 4 out of my 6 releases. It’s no exageration when I say that I <3 her to pieces. She's the best!

Oh yes, gotta love a guy who's attentive and courteous. Makes a girl feel special and cherished. =)

For me I love a man who can help out around the house whether it be laundry, cooking, cleaning, or doing art stuff with kids. Having a great body while doing all this is a plus too 😉 I love my guy been together 21 years and I’m always finding out new things he can do around the house 😉
    Book looks great!

    • August 17, 2011 at 8:42 pm

*bg* Sounds like you have your guy trained very well, Dawn. He also sounds like a keeper.

      Thanks, Dawn!! =)

  • August 17, 2011 at 9:14 pm

OMG those crepes sound good. We used to have a crepe shop in our local mall when I was growing up and we used to go there after school all the time and have crepes.

Guys who cook is a bonus but I love a guy with a great sense of humor.

    Bound and Determined sounds great.

    • August 18, 2011 at 10:37 am

Those childhood memories are so special aren’t they? The great thing about making crepes is that you can’t go wrong. Even if the crepe doesn’t flip over quite right and turn out perfectly flat, it’s still super yummy to eat.

      Thanks, elaing8! =)

  • August 17, 2011 at 10:04 pm

      You’re welcome, Shadow. Enjoy!

And yup, down to earth guys are awesome. =)

  • August 18, 2011 at 11:56 pm

Brought my laptop down to the kitchen, tried it out. Delicious. But now I have all this extra caramel sauce… guess I have to go to the store for ice cream tomorrow. Darn.

    • August 19, 2011 at 9:47 am

Hahaha! What a terrible dilemma to have, Zee. LOL

Glad you enjoyed the crepes! =)

  • August 22, 2011 at 1:10 am

I find a sense of humor sexy. If you can laugh at yourself I find that sexy.
I have never had crepes before. Everyone says that they are good. I will have to try them.
