Temptation. Everywhere you look, it’s right there ready to trip you up the second you let down your guard.

SweetTemptation72LGNot surprising when you consider there are an endless number of things that can and do tempt us. Everything from clothes, to collectibles, the latest technology and everything in between. The temptation in question can be as varied and unique as the individual being tempted because what one person finds mundane, another can’t resist.

Sweet Temptation, my latest release, has three novellas that deal with one of the most common temptations there are, at least I think it’s one of the most common. Certainly it’s one of the most fun. I love reading about characters who are tempted by someone they know they should resist but just can’t. Each of the stories in this anthology features a heroine determined to tempt a somewhat reluctant hero who is doing his best to resist. A huge part of the fun is that the poor guy doesn’t know what hit him when the heroine turns on the charm.

In one of the novellas, Batteries Not Required, Dana uses her feminine wiles on Reese and she pulls out every stop she can think of to get his attention. Let’s face it, if you’re trying to get a man to notice you, it’s all about temptation and you may as well attack him on every front you can think of. And since the saying goes that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, Dana decides to use food as one of her secret weapons.

When I was growing up, food was very important in our family. Some of my fondest childhood memories revolve around the wonderful things my mother would cook and bake for my father and I. She loved to entertain, tempting one and all with the fabulous things she’d whipped up. There was nothing fancy about what she made, but everything was to-die-for delicious.

acknowledgement to redxiii / 123RF Stock PhotoSo it’s no surprise that when I was writing Batteries Not Required, fried chicken immediately sprang to mind when Dana was concocting her nefarious plan to get Reese. Believe me, if any food can do the trick, it’s my mom’s homemade fried chicken. It’s that good.

For me it definitely falls into the comfort food category. And the really great thing is that my Mom’s recipe can be used to deep fry just about anything—from fish to veal to cauliflower. Chicken just happened to be our family favorite. The smell of it cooking got my mouth watering like nothing else. And when it was done, mmm mmm. Crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. YUM.

Okay, now not only am I craving my mother’s fried chicken but I’m starving. LOL So, how about you, are you tempted? If not, what’s your temptation? Do you have a favorite comfort food? I’d love to hear it. =)

Dana’s Oh-So-Tempting Breaded Fried Chicken

You can make as large or as small a batch as you like, just bear in mind that it’s delicious the next day for leftovers.

Lightly sprinkle salt over chicken pieces and let sit for at least 30 minutes.

The following will coat 1 disjointed fryer chicken which is about 10 pieces of chicken so if you’re only cooking a few pieces you won’t need as much flour or bread crumbs.

3/4 cup flour
1 egg lightly beaten – you can add a bit of milk if you’re making a bigger batch
1 1/2 cups fine dry bread crumbs
3 cups solid vegetable shortening or oil such as sunflower oil

Put flour on a sheet of paper towel or in a shallow dish if you prefer

Combine the egg (and milk) in another shallow dish

Put bread crumbs on another sheet of paper towel or into another dish

Coat each piece of chicken with the flour, then the egg mixture. Then coat each piece with the bread crumbs. Be sure to press the crumbs onto the chicken with your fingers. That’s it.

Let breaded chicken sit for 30 minutes before frying. This prevents the breading from coming off while frying.

In a deep fryer or heavy skillet heat shortening or oil over medium heat to a temperature of 350 degrees, or you can test the oil with a pinch of bread crumbs. If it sizzles, it’s ready. Fry chicken on medium heat until browned on all sides, 35 to 40 minutes. If the chicken is browning too fast lower the heat, but keep it hot and sizzling. Add more oil as needed. Drain chicken on paper towels and keep warm until ready to serve. Enjoy! =)

Forbidden fruit is always the sweetest temptation.

Lusting after the wrong woman can be pure torture. Especially when the sexy siren, who just happens to fall into the ‘do not touch—ever’ category, has him firmly in her sights. The smart move is to resist, but sometimes the heart has other plans…

Ready or Not
At first, Brianna’s agreement to fill in as a bachelor party stripper sounds like a win-win situation. But when the man she’s wanted for years shows up, baring all suddenly doesn’t seem like such a hot idea. After her oh-so-sexy stripper act, Quinn knows exactly what he’s been missing. But as an attorney for a prestigious law firm, he certain Brianna’s the last person he should be looking at. Or lusting after. But lust he does—with a vengeance.

Batteries Not Required
In Dana’s experience, really bad, boring sex and long-term relationships go hand-in-hand. Now she’s on a mission to find excitement in the bedroom and she knows just who she wants to give it to her. Short-term relationships are Reese’s specialty—and so is sex. Dana’s proposal to have a fling is right up his alley. The problem is she doesn’t know the score. Which makes her totally off-limits, no matter how much he wants to jump at her tempting offer.

Brazen or Bust
Nica’s through with mooning over Logan from afar. It’s time to make him see her as more than his tomboyish, honorary kid sister. Armed with a sexy makeover and a feisty new attitude, Nica’s more than ready to take him on. Now Logan doesn’t know what hit him. The girl he’s known since they were kids is suddenly a brazen sex kitten who’s got him turned on and tied up in knots. But the last thing he should be thinking about is taking the enticingly tasty bait she’s dangling in front of him.

Three sexy hunks brought down by sweet temptation. Suddenly, ‘resistance is futile’ has a whole new meaning.

Warning: This book contains seductive stripping, a teensy bit of handcuff play, the inappropriate use of furniture, feisty women determined to seduce and sexy hunks bowled over by temptation. All of which leads to some smokin’ hot graphic sex.

    GOSH – only ONE temptation??
It may come as no surprise that my biggest temptation is BOOKS – I have a bookcase in my living room that holds 1,000 paperbacks and there ARE 1,000
    paperbacks on it.

I also have a sweet tooth (which I probably try to control) but what the heck it’s almost Christmas; sooooo, I will indulge in all the goodies from this time of the year.!!! LOL.

that should have read (which I should probably TRY to control) — the brain works faster than the typing fingers a lot. LOL

  • December 14, 2011 at 12:27 pm

Gee, Ruth, sounds like we have the same temptations. (Where did you find a bookcase that holds 1,000 paperbacks? I’m jealous. I want one of those!)

A very dear and close friend of mine — more like a sister — had her husband make one for her — then he made one for their daughter so she could display her porcelain doll collection.

I fell in love with it and bought the supplies and he made one for me.

Nothing fancy but it holds rows of books 3 deep on 5 shelves — it is about 6 feet high. So that is where I keep all my “keepers” and a few rows of my TBR books. Then when I remove a book and have read it I replace that one with another one that usually is in a box under my bed.

I also have 2 small bookcases in the bedroom one holds 90 books and the other one I’m not sure – never counted.

Oh man, I’m right there with both of you. I LOVE books. I have 5 bookcases full of books. Two of them have eight shelves that are stacked two deep with paperbacks, and the other three have seven shelves stacked two deep. Yes, I have a serious book problem. I wonder if there’s an AA equivalent for that? LOL

Wow, a fried chicken recipe that’s way too simple for me. I usually burn it but I can see were waiting 30 minutes for the chicken to sit. That’s my biggest problem is the breading falling off. Thanks Anara.

You’re welcome, Marika! I hope the breading tip helps. If you find you’re burning the breading, try turning the heat down a smidge. The oil might be just a bit too hot and thus burning the breading before the chicken inside is completely cooked. =)

Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate and a good book are good comforts, although the fried chicken sounds good about now.

    • December 14, 2011 at 3:50 pm

Mmmm, chocolate. I love me some chocolate too. This time of the year I find myself craving Turtles. Must be all the commercials on tv right now. LOL
