Since you’re following this blog, you probably already read romances, so how about sharing your favorite romance, new or old, or favorite romance author, with the rest of us?

For me? I know I’m going to forget a lot of my favorite authors, and favorite books, but here’s a starter list:

My go-to auto-buy author for a contemporary feel-good romance is Jill Shalvis. I love her Lucky Harbor series, especially Head Over Heels, book 3 in the series. Another all-time favorite is Instant Attraction, book 1 in her Wilder series.

If I’m looking for a hotter read, then I head for Lauren Dane‘s books. While I love her entire Brown Sibling series, my favorite of her romances is Laid Bare.

Crave cowboys? Then you definitely should be reading Lorelei James — either her Roughrider series that follows the McKay family–start with Long Hard Ride, or her Black Top Cowboy series. Start with Corralled, though my favorite book of the series (so far) is One Night Rodeo.

Love sci-fi romances? You have to read Cheryl Brooks Cat Star Chronicles. Start with book #1 — Slave. *fans self* They’re smoking hot and have a really interesting sexual twist to them. 😉

Like your romance with a bite? Get drawn into the shadowy vampiric world of JR Ward‘s Black Dagger Brotherhood — start with book 1 – Dark Lover.  Or if you prefer the lighter side of vampires, head straight for Lynsay Sand‘s Argeneau series. (This gets a little complicated because they were originally released out of order.) Ignore the release dates, and start with A Quick Bite. (The reading order list of the rest can be found if you click the Argeneau link above. And if you like historicals, I love Lynsay’s historicals too.)

How about historicals? Oh, where to start here… If you like romances that take a modern theme and put a historical twist to it, try Vicky Dreiling’s How to Marry a Duke. Tired of Regencies? Try Jo Beverly‘s Malloren series — starting with My Lady Notorious. We’re talking a time when men wore the high heels and red and pink striped silk stockings. And Cyn, OMG even wearing that get-up he’s still hot!

Want steamier historicals? Read the very first erotic historical that launched me into wanting to write erotic romances too — Kate Pearce’s Eden’s Pleasure followed by her Antonia’s Bargain.

Now it’s your turn … share your favorite romances, new or old. And GO!

Leah, you are so right. It is hard to name just a few because I have many favorites. Of course, you are one of my favorite authors. Another of my all-time favorites is Desiree Holt. She writes it all, romantic suspense, cowboys, paranormal, contemporary. My favorite of her series is her suspense series, The Phoenix Agency. Other rom suspense favorites are Monette Michaels(Security Specialists International), Shiloh Walker(Ash Trilogy) and Lori Foster(Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor).
As for contemporary; Shannon Stacey(Kowalskis), Marie Force(McCarthys of Gansett Island), Bella Andre(Sullivans) and Sophie Oak(Bliss, CO).
I have a number of favorites in Paranormal; top of my list is Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series. Others are Sherrilyn Kenyon(Dark Hunters), Shelley Laurenston(Pride & Magnus Pack) and Dakota Cassidy(Accidental Friends). Military romance favorites include Marliss Melton(Navy SEAL Team Twelve) and Cat Johnson (Red, Hot & Blue).
Moving on to Cowboys; Lorelei James Rough Riders is also one of my favorites. If you like your cowboy romance with a little humor then you will love Linda McMaken’s Three Baers series. I also love Carolyn Brown who has written a number of great cowboy series, and Cat Johnson’s Studs in Spurs series. But I have just discovered another fantastic cowboy series, Deep in the Heart of Texas written by Katie Lane. If you like the people of Bliss, CO(Sophie Oak) then you will also just love Bramble, TX.

Sorry about getting carried away there. It’s just so easy to do with all the great romance authors writing their hearts out.

I love that you got “carried away”, Margie. As I was reading your list, I was nodding my head and thinking “Yeah, how could I forget about her/that book?” So many great authors/books to read in that list.

Oh this is going to be so hard to just name a few of my favorites! I of course love all of your books, but that kind of goes without saying. 🙂

I’ve been on a rock star kick lately and Olivia Cunning’s two series are sizzling hot! I just got done reading an ARC of Wicked Beat and it was a fun and very kinky book! Another rock star fave is Lexxie Couper’s Loves Rhythm and Jess Dee’s Speed series.

My go to authors have to be divided up by category, because it is really hard for me to pick favorites here.

Cowboys ~ Lorelei James (all her books are amazing), Vivian Arend’s Six Pack Ranch series
BDSM ~ Eliza Gayle, Cherise Sinclair, Jayne Rylon’s Men in Blue series, Tymber Dalton The Reluctant Dom (heavy emotion),
Romantic Suspense ~ Maya Banks KGI series, Cherry Adair’s T-FLAC and her Cutter Cay series, Anne Stuart’s Ice series, and Lora Leigh’s Elite Ops & Tempting SEALs are all great reads
Shifters ~ Jennifer Ashley’s Shifters Unbound series, and Shelly Laurenston because she is just awesome
Paranormal ~ Nickey Charles Law of the Lycan’s series is great and free, Mary Hughes Biting Love series, Katie MacAlister’s Dark Ones and also her Dragon series are great, Nina Bangs, Gerry Bartlett, and I second the Lynsay Sands Argeneau Series as well as JR Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood
Darker ~ Karina Halle’s Artist trilogy and Madeline Sheehan’s Undeniable series
Taboo ~ Jayne Rylon’s Powertool series, and anything by Kitty Thomas
Contemporary ~ hands down Tara Sivec, Lori Foster, Mari Carr, any of Jess Dee’s books are great for emotion and Only Tyler is my personal favorite
M/M ~ Mia Downing & L.A. Witt are two faves
Historical ~ Anne Mallory, Anne Stuart’s The House of Rohan series, Samantha Kane’s Brothers in Arms series is fantastic, and Jennifer Ashley’s Highland Pleasures series
Sports ~ REAL by Katy Evans, Wicked Game by Mercy Celeste, and Scored by Lily Harlem
Scifi ~ Victorious Star by Morgan Hawke (a bit taboo), and Trista Anne Michaels Entwined Fates series

Okay it was a longer list than I intended, but they are all so good!!!!

Here’s my list-anything that comes out by these ladies is automatically downloaded to my kindle — Lorelei James, Mari Carr, Desiree Holt, Lissa Matthews, Lexxie Couper, Cat Johnson, Sandy Sullivan, Tonya Ramagos, Nicole Edwards, Cerise Deland, Maya Banks, Cherise Sinclair just to name a few. And there’s equally that many that I didn’t name

aww, thanks for including me on your list, Shirley. I see a few names I haven’t read yet, but most of them are already on my lists too.

You should try her Blacktop Cowboys series. I like it even better than the Rough Riders.

    • August 4, 2013 at 4:59 pm

I did mention the Blacktop Cowboys, Silver. I loved her One Night Rodeo the best out of that series (so far) but can’t wait to read Turn and Burn which comes out in a couple of days.
